Dominican Life

Taking a trip to the wonderful Dominican Republic? Here’s a few tips for you to make the most out of your trip:

  1. NEVER drink tap water in the Dominican (I personally suggest brushing your teeth with bottle water as well)
  2. Be careful drinking out of their coconuts they call them “natural laxatives”
  3. Take medicine with you sometimes their food doesn’t settle well in the stomach
  4. It’s okay to buy excursions from the people on the beach just make sure you always get a RECEIPT
  5. Bargain with them! Never buy something full price. They will always give you a ridiculous price, simply just give them what you want to pay and if they say no just walk away.
  6. Thinking about wondering off your resort? In my opinion as long as you don’t go to far and you are always aware of your surroundings you will be okay. But NEVER GO ALONE!
  7. Tip the people serving you. It is simply just a nice gesture. Even if you just give a $1 every other drink you order, it means the world to them.
  8. Always wear sunscreen! The sun is extremely hot there so keeping a bottle of sunscreen with you at all times is very important.
  9. Your resort might tell you “not to go parasailing because it could damage your ears and you won’t be able to fly home.” They do this simply because their company doesn’t sell that excursion. I highly recommend going parasailing, it’s a great way to see a wide view of the scenery around you.
  10. Two things you don’t want to leave the Dominican without. Mama Juana (which is their national drink) and “Larimar” (the Dominican national stone).

  1. I agree with all of your suggestions. I’d add – tip anyone you photograph. At least a dollar. They cabn get very nasty if you don’t. It’s a good idea to do it on every island you travel to.
